Sowerby Bridge Spiritualist Church is a cherished part of the local community, offering a meaningful link between the town’s Victorian heritage and its living spiritual tradition. Established in June-1874, it is believed to be the oldest purpose-built Spiritualist Lyceum in the United Kingdom, founded during a time when spiritualism was flourishing among working communities. From its earliest days, the church served not only as a place of worship but also as a vibrant social centre, bringing people together through gatherings, shared learning, and community events. Although it has experienced periods of decline and temporary closure over the years, its importance has endured, and today it stands revived through the dedication of its community.
